Learn More About Us

Who We Are

Point 2 Running Company is a Newport News running store serving Hampton, York County, Williamsburg and beyond. Founded in May 2011, we exist to help you reach and exceed your running goals–whether it’s that first .2 miles from your front porch or the last .2 miles of your latest marathon.

We carry the best, most popular brands of quality running shoes, clothing and other gear–everything you might need to reach your personal goals. In addition to merchandise, we also offer free custom shoe fittings using high-tech gait analysis, and host local group runs and training programs to further equip you to succeed! Check out our Events Page for more information on upcoming group runs and training programs.

The Point 2 Story

Nearing the end of 2010, we recognized there was a need in the Hampton Roads area: a place where runners could not only find the latest and greatest running shoes and gear, but also a place where they could receive encouragement, advice and a direct connection with other runners. For the next several months we fully ingrained ourselves into the running business. We researched, visited other running specialty stores in the U.S. and attended conferences and expos–all to see what they were doing to influence the community around them.

Throughout this process, we clarified our drive for opening Point 2: to bring a place to the community that served runners as fully and completely as possible, providing them with a wide variety of top-line gear, innovative technology and an experienced and friendly staff to support their running goals.

Point 2 opened it’s doors in May 2011 and began actively serving the community we call home. As a family owned and operated business we strive for continual excellence because we are fortunate enough to call our customers our friends, neighbors, and colleagues. We’ve chosen the team that works alongside us very carefully, and it is another defining aspect of our business. Although we are all runners, what drives us to lace up our shoes and run varies drastically! Some of us run with a mind for speed and winning races. Some of us run so that we can travel and see the world in different marathons on all the continents! Many of us run to chase that next PR. And of course, lots of us run just because we love to eat! What ties all of us together is simple- a love for running and a dedication to help people wherever they are at on their fitness journey.

As the community embraced us, we took notes on how we wanted to grow and how we could better serve our community. We believe that serving runners here on the Peninsula (and beyond!) is about more than the products we carry, how clean and organized the store is, or even about how knowledgable our team is. It’s about the relationships we build. By supporting great events like those put on by our partner Flat-Out Events and helping out with other events like the 24-Hour Cancer Hater Challenge, we are able to build strong relationships with people in our community.

The next chapter in our history started at the beginning of 2014 as we began to outgrow our current space in the Shoppes at Kiln Creek.  Just up the road, a very exciting development had recently been announced, but had yet to break ground. Starting in September 2015, Point 2 will move to a new, larger space at the Marketplace at Tech Center where we can continue to grow and serve our customers!

At the end of the day, we are inspired by your grit and determination wherever you are on your fitness journey. Whether it is .2 from your front porch to the end of your street, or the last .2 of your marathon, we are here to support you.

About Our Custom Shoe Fittings

Using our special gait analysis, we can assess your running shoe needs and help you find a shoe with the perfect fit and feel for you! It takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete and it’s totally free! Here’s how it works.

Step One

We’ll spend some time getting to know you and what you’ll be using the shoes for. We’re curious as to how often you run or walk, any problems or pain you’re having, and what shoes you’re currently using to name a few. This is a great time for you to share fitness goals with us as it helps us focus in on what you need as well as just learn more about you!

Step Two

Next we’ll take several measurements of your feet. We’ll use the Brannock device to measure your length, arch and width and we’ll use our Presto-Scan pressure mat to see your arch type, pressure points and weight distribution. Although we can visually see much of this on our own, we believe that you seeing it with us is part of the fun!

Step Three

From there, we’ll go to the treadmill! Our trained associates will record you walking or running at a comfortable pace for 15-20 seconds. Then we’ll replay the video back in slow motion so we can show you specific movements in your feet, ankles and lower legs. We’ll use this real time data to help us make an informed recommendation while educating you at the same time.

Step Four

If you weren’t having fun yet, this is where the real fun begins! Once we make a recommendation on the type of shoe you need, we’ll bring out several models for you to try on. We’ll make specific recommendations based on what we’ve seen as well as rely on your feedback to narrow in on your ideal shoes! Our goal is for you to leave 100% satisfied with shoes that fit and feel amazing.

About Our Custom Bra Fittings

Having the right sports bra is just as important as having the right footwear. With the right fit and support, a sports bra can enhance your workout experience no matter your chosen activity. We want to ensure you have the most optimal experience while reaching your fitness goals, so we offer a wide range of Moving Comfort sports bras and an excellent fitting process to meet your needs.

Step One

We will talk to you about the activities you’ll be doing in the bra. If you’re running or doing high-impact activities, we want to make sure you have the support you need. This is the perfect time to tell us what your experiences with sports bras have been -positive and negative. We will use that information to guide our suggestions for you. If you’re looking for something specific in a sports bra, tell us so we can help you find it!

Step Two

We will use your bra size as a starting point for finding the right bra for you. If you aren’t sure what your true bra size is, one of our bra fitters can measure you to find out your size. Once we have your size, we will pull some bras and make recommendations.

Step Three

Next, we’ll encourage you to try on our suggestions! Give us feedback on what you’re feeling. We’ll ask you about the band security, the strap comfort, and the cup fit. All of these are very important elements of fit to ensure you have the right sports bra. We believe you should love your sports bra and the right fit is what we’ll work with you to achieve!

Uncommon Influence

We all have been influenced by people throughout our lives. But a few of those influencers took it to another level. Perhaps you can remember a coach or a teacher that made a deep, positive impact on your life. That impact was so great that you could say it was uncommon. This type of impact; which we call uncommon influence is rare but extremely powerful, so much so that it results in life-change.
